Most surgeons will state you need someone for 24 hours immediately after your surgery. This is true. The patient is still coming off of anesthesia or sedatives and needs close monitoring. Vitals, assistance to bathroom, drain care, especially pain management, deep breathing exercises, getting up to walk to promote circulation to prevent DVTs, cold compresses and plenty of rest. Do you know someone that can do this for you and function the next day? This is what trained nurses in this field do.
Now, you ask how many days do you NEED? To get the best results and benefit from your surgery which you have researched and interviewed surgeons and invested time and money. I recommend to hire a nurse for a minimum of 3 days. Most of my patients have hired me for 4 days, some for 7 days. Each day is an education about your recovery, reassurance on your healing. Especially days 4-6 on face lift patients are at their peak swelling and are feeling a bit depressed, because they are not looking like themselves due to swelling. I am there to listen and help you, I have personally helped hundreds of patients and have reassured them and later they are over the moon with their results. I love for patients to look at their before picture and see the major improvements that are visible, especially the turkey neck is GONE! Your profile is beautiful! Just ignore the swelling for now. Your surgeon worked very hard to get you to this point. You need to do your part and let time go by and swelling will decrease daily.
I am also assessing your incisions, cleaning them, assisting you with showers and wound care. I am also preparing your meals. I am taking you to all your appointments. Some have 4 appointments in one week. Who wants to take an Uber to your follow up appointments? Not me, when you want the cleanest environment around you. I also update your MD and his post op staff as needed. I do light housekeeping and laundry, your MD will instruct you no bending or lifting, especially with a face lift or tummy tuck. You deserve the best care with a highly skilled Plastic Surgery nurse. This is a very important part of your investment on your outcome from your surgery.

I have a contract I will email you. Once you receive this, you will send back with a $500.00 deposit. Please list any medical conditions and your current medication list on the contract. It is always best practice to inform your nurse of all over-the-counter supplements, herbs and prescriptions any other doctors have ordered for you. I will keep all private. HIPAA is always followed.

You will only be cared for by a Registered Nurse (me). I have been caring for all types of Plastic Surgery procedures for many years, I can say I am truly an expert on post op/recovery care. I know what looks normal and what is not. I am by your side, not a ‘nurse on call.’ Some facilities will have several patients with a ‘nurse on call.’ I will be your private recovery nurse in the comfort of your home, hotel or Airbnb.

I do offer a package where after we do your recovery in town with your surgeon, I will fly home with you to make sure you do not lift any luggage and to make sure you are feeling ok during your flight home. I will continue your recovery and stay as long as you need given ample advance notice.

I make a pot of homemade organic vegetable or organic vegetable with chicken soup. I also make a container of homemade applesauce (no added sugar) only apples with the skin on for fiber!! I recommend protein with each meal. Usually 20-30 gms at each meal. My patients love my protein shakes in the morning with a bowl of protein oatmeal while taking your morning medications to prevent an upset stomach. We can discuss more on food during our phone calls. Nutrition is very important before and during your recovery.

I will usually bring all the supplies I use to clean and protect the wounds (of course, I only use what is ordered and approved by your surgeon). We will discuss this on our calls or emails also.

Yes. Depending upon the procedure, it makes sense to sleep in a reclining (not horizontal) position for 1-2 weeks following surgery to minimize the collection of fluids in the face and eyelids. I have a wedge pillow I recommend to all my patients for recovery and comfort.
We will always follow the instructions you will be given by your surgeon about making and administering your cold compresses. These will not only reduce bruising and swelling, but they will also maximize and promote healing. Note: Many surgeons restrict cold compress/ ice on certain body areas, due to constriction of blood vessels and freezing skin. It is important to follow your surgeon’s protocol. I will always find out this information from the surgeon for you.
I look forward to hearing from you and will be honored to care for you during your recovery. Please text, call or email me with any additional questions you might have. Have a lovely day and congratulations on your upcoming procedure!!!
Hugs, Diana
